The case of the bending trees remai...Hi there Mom.<br /><br />The case of the bending trees remains a mystery to me. A modest Google search did not turn up anything helpful. <br /><br />I can definitely say that ice buildup and the wind are not factors, from my observations. The direction of the bending seems to be to the easiest path to the ground. As you suggested, photosynthesis may be the culprit, but I don’t see how, and why would it only affect two kinds of trees instead of them all?<br /><br />From Ontario to New Brunswick there are a many stands of trees doing this, but not along the whole route.
